Does it actually reach your bloodstream?

The common objection is right about the first part. Intact collagen and gelatin are broken down in digestion and largely wasted.

Hydrolyzed collagen differs in one measurable way. Specific di- and tri-peptides, Pro-Hyp and Hyp-Gly, survive digestion intact and are detectable in human blood one to two hours after a dose.

That is where the human evidence stops, so that is where we stop. Anyone telling you they then travel to your face is telling you something the research does not show.

What is in the tub

Bovine hide collagen peptides. That is the entire ingredient list. Reading it takes about four seconds.

Per serving: 20g of collagen peptides, 18g of protein, 70 calories. Hydrolysed type I and III, grass-fed, gluten free and lactose free. 280g per tub, which is 14 servings. Made in the USA.

If a collagen has ever broken you out, it is worth reading what else was in the tub. There is nothing else in this one.

How to take it

Add one level scoop to 8 to 10 oz of chilled water, or to whatever you already drink in the morning, and stir for about five seconds. It is unflavoured, so it will not change the taste of coffee or tea.

One scoop is 20g. Worth knowing honestly: the trials that found effects used 2.5 to 10g a day, and there is no evidence that going above that range does more. We put the number on the pack so you can make that call yourself.

What this cannot do

It will not do anything about your hormones, and we are not going to imply otherwise.

The peptide evidence stops at the bloodstream. The studies on skin outcomes are small, mixed, and often funded by people who sell collagen. You would find that out eventually, so you may as well find it out from us.

This is not a bone supplement. Calcium here is 26mg, which is 2 percent of a daily value.

If you have a history of kidney stones or kidney disease, speak to your doctor before taking a 20g daily dose.

Daily collagen for skin, hair, nails and joints

Collagen is the structural protein that makes up skin, hair, nails, tendons and the connective tissue around joints, and the body produces less of it as it ages.

Mofu Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides give you 20g of hydrolysed type I and III collagen in one unflavoured scoop, to help fill that gap alongside a balanced diet. One ingredient, and nothing else in the tub.

Hear from them

  • I've had knee pain since an injury seven months ago, and every step put sharp pain on the inner side of my knee. After three weeks of consistent use, that sharp pain is completely gone. I still have mild soreness I'm working through, so it's not a cure for the injury, but it solved the intense pain I was in.

  • I don't want to sound like I'm overreacting, but I felt good after the very first use, and I'm coming off shelf protein powders from Muscletech and Isopure. My gut seems to be at ease with this one, and my skin feels like it's glowing too.

    Jennifer Miller Verified buyer

  • I use this in my morning coffee for hair, skin and nails, and to get extra protein into my day. As someone with PCOS who always needs more protein, it's been so convenient. Add one scoop, let it dissolve, then add the second and you barely have to stir.

    Grace Chen Verified buyer

  • I chose unflavoured so I could mix it into my coffee, and it doesn't change the flavour or texture at all. After the first month my complexion looked much more even and brighter. It hasn't done much for my sleep, but for skin it's been worth it.

    Ashley Thompson Verified buyer

  • I've been using this for over 90 days and have noticed a real improvement in my hair and nails. I put it in my coffee and my protein shake, and it has no flavour. Highly recommend.

    Amanda Ross Verified buyer

  • With a lot of collagen powders, odd taste and clumping come up as complaints. Not here. I added a scoop to black coffee and it started dissolving as I poured. Two stirs and it was gone, with no odd taste at all.

Frequently asked questions

Does collagen not just get broken down into amino acids?

Partly, yes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. Intact collagen and gelatin are broken down and largely wasted.

Hydrolyzed collagen is different in one specific, measurable way. Certain di- and tri-peptides survive digestion and are detectable in blood one to two hours after a dose. That is the whole of the claim, and we stop it there.

How long before I notice anything?

Nails and hair are usually what people notice first, which is why they are worth watching. Skin outcomes in the research are measured at eight to twelve weeks. Joint outcomes are measured at twelve to twenty-four.

We would rather tell you that before you buy than let you find it out at week nine. Treat it as a twelve week test, and decide that at the start.

How much is in a tub, and how long does it last?

280g, which is 14 servings at one 20g scoop a day. At one serving a day that is a two week supply, so a twelve week run is six tubs.

That is an awkward number to publish and it is still the true one.

Is 20 grams the right amount?

It is what one level scoop holds, and it is on the panel.

Being straight about it: the trials that produced results used 2.5 to 10g a day, and there is no dose-response evidence above roughly 5g. So 20g is above the studied range rather than a clinically established dose. More is not established to be better.

Will it break me out, or upset my stomach?

There is no peer-reviewed evidence of collagen itself causing acne. Where a collagen product has caused a reaction, the usual suspects are the other things in the tub. This one has no other things in the tub.

If you are prone to digestive upset with new supplements, start with half a scoop for the first week and build up.

Is there anything else in it?

No. Bovine hide collagen peptides, and nothing else. No flavouring, no sweetener, no filler, no dairy, no gluten.

Should I just eat more protein instead?

Eat more protein. This is not a substitute for it and we are not going to pretend it is.

Collagen contains no tryptophan, and in head-to-head trials whey performs better as a protein source. What this gives you is 18g of protein at 70 calories in a form that dissolves into a drink you are already having.

Who should not take this?

Anyone with a history of kidney stones or kidney disease should speak to their doctor first. A 20g daily dose is worth a conversation.

The same goes if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medication. This is bovine collagen, so it is not suitable if you avoid beef.
